![]() ![]() The Zeroes can still damage you with their machine guns (and will), but if you defend the ship, you'll last far longer. By taking out as many of the torpedoes as you can, you'll keep this mission going longer, which will allow you to kill more Zeroes. Try to take out as many Zeroes as you can, and defend the USS California. You'll basically play this part of the mission until you get really low on health, at which point you'll be knocked into the ocean water. Using this massive gun (which has unlimited ammo), you'll want to clip all incoming Zeroes, as well as any torpedoes coming at your ship. ![]() Instead, quickly run to the large mounted machine gun in front of you, using that as your weapon. This rifle can do some serious damage, but don't even bother with it. The soldier next to you will throw you a Browning Automatic Rifle LMG. In slow motion, you see Japanese Zero fighters swooping down, using their lethal machine guns to kill men on the deck of the ship while their torpedoes smash into the ship's exterior, slowly destroying it. Here, the game takes over with a little cut scene. Go left and down the corridor to the staircase, and follow another staircase up, finally being topside on the USS California. Then, head right, out of this cafeteria room, and into another corridor. En route, as you're in the adjacent room, you'll see a save point that you can use to save your progress if you desire. Approach the chef trying to put the fire out and hand him your Fire Extinguisher, which will allow him to put out the flames so you can work your way forward and then right into the adjacent room, continuing on your quest to get topside. Go back, now, to the previous corridor.Ĭontinue forward and look left into a kitchen engulfed in flames. Once the fire in this room is out, that'll take care of the optional mission of saving the Crewman. Use the Fire Extinguisher to take care of that fire, and run into the room, taking out another fire as well. Approach the fire and help him extinguish it (beginning to take care of a mission objective), and then look left, into a fire engulfed door. Follow him as he approaches a fire down the corridor, grabbing the Fire Extinguisher automatically as you follow him. Once here, go left and down a corridor, where a man will scream and run leftward down the corridor. Then, go left and up the stairs, getting closer and closer to the topside. At the end of this corridor, assist the engineer shut the door ahead of you by pressing the action button, taking care of an optional objective on this mission. The game is simply giving you a mini tutorial as you go. Further up the corridor, you'll be instructed to duck under and walk below some pipes coming out of the ceiling. The game will instruct you to jump over the pipes and wires, which you should do. Go forward, now, down the corridor to a pipe and some wires sticking out of the floor. ![]() We're not on the deck yet, but we're close! Ignore the room in front of you and swing left, down another corridor, where you'll see a man get blasted in the face with some extremely hot steam, falling to the ground. Follow him as he goes into the adjacent room, and swing right into a hallway where you'll find a barber shop pole next to the door in front of you. In the shower room, you'll meet up with another soldier who will tell you to follow him. From there, head left into the shower room. Go right down the corridor, watching a fellow soldier get electrocuted by some stray wires that have been blown into a door jam. The screen will constantly shake on this mission - that's normal, it simply signifies the bombardment of the Japanese Zeroes pummeling your ship (and the others in the area) with the machine gun fire and torpedoes. Go forward out of the bunk room and into the hallway ahead of you, with the flashing red lights and the sirens going on. You'll get control of your character soon thereafter. Suddenly, you'll hear the engines of fighters above you, and feel the shake of torpedo bombardment. Inspired by these Native American myths and legends, Michael's goal is to incorporate them into a body of work that maintains a universal feel - one that all people can relate to. He sets inlaid bear designs in a myriad of all shapes, colors, and sizes among medicine wheels (circle of life), bear tracks (marks of where one has been), and symbols sacred to the Black Hills of South Dakota. In his Mato Oyate jewelry design, Michael celebrates the Family of Bear. It was believed this union created a powerful bond between man and bear and also illustrated the Bear as a symbol of family. One popular Native American story tells of a bear who took an Indian chief's daughter as his wife when the couple later gave birth to twin bear cubs, she became known as Bear Mother. The Bear also represents motherhood, as the bear is known for their aggressive nature when protecting cubs. According to legend, if a native hunter killed a bear, he and his tribe would welcome the bear as if it were a guest before harvesting the meat and using the hide for clothing and bones for tools. Many ancient Native American tribes have great respect for the bear. Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing and always come back again to where they were."Īs he incorporates images of the sun, a morning star, rain clouds and lighting, as well as symbolic animal imagery into this jewelry piece, Michael uses integral elements of the Lakota Sioux universe (and the natural world) to illustrate this continuous life cycle. The moon does the same and both are round. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sky is round and I have heard that the Earth is round like a ball and so are all the stars. "Everything the power of the world does is done in a circle. In his depiction of this romantic tale, Michael has captured the true essence of this Lakota love story through his use of powerful symbolism, exquisite design, and ethereal composition - feminine and masculine forms are intertwined with symbols of love, new beginnings, and family.Īt the heart of Lakota Indian philosophy is the belief that all elements of life move in a never-ending cycle of birth, death and rebirth. As the young man played, he was able to tell her more clearly than his words ever could that he loved her… The romantic tale of the first love flute tells of the sweet song a brave, but very shy young warrior once composed for the girl he loved. He uses his work as a vessel for not only transforming ancient stories and spiritual beliefs into captivating jewelry pieces, but he also gives them the power to transform their meanings based on the experience of the wearer. Plus there’s snow and shadows in the foreground to deal with as well, making for a truly difficult shot.Īdmittedly HDR Darkroom 3 did struggle here, I tried to recover those highlights in the sky, but no matter what I did they were always blown out. The image below is made up of three bracketed images shot at +2, 0, -2 directly into the sun. So let’s take it a bit further, let’s try and and do something close to a worst case scenario HDR. But, I didn’t want to be too unfair in the introduction. The waterfall photo above that I used for the walkthrough is a fairly easy shot for an HDR process as its low on dynamic range and won’t really push the software to its maximum potential. How’s HDR Darkroom 3 handle worst case high dynamic range? One of the biggest things that I felt was missing was a local adjustment brush for finer control over where effects were being applied. However, for those who do want a little more control, it might be just a bit too limiting. Overall, HDR Darkroom 3 does do a good job at processing a bracketed set of photographs with a slick, easy to use interface to boot. Once in the advanced section you have access to many of the tools you might expect like: tone mapping, basic exposure and contrast control, highlight and shadow adjustments, white and black point adjustments, and other tools for color, smoothness and even lens correction. When you have found a preset that you like for the image, you can then customize it to your liking with three different sliders for Saturating, Exposure and Vignette as well as an advanced button for more freedom in the editing process. You choose which one you like best for the image that you’re working on and each one will change the image to achieve a particular look. HDR Darkroom 3, unlike the other programs in the industry, actually forces you to start with a preset. On top of this preset the program comes packed with 15 more for you to choose from and the option to save any modifications that you’ve made as custom presets. Again, this is a very simplistic approach, where the user is left at the mercy of the algorithm inside the program with no ability to customize which areas of the photograph to focus on, or the intensity of the ghosting effect removal.Īfter importing your image you are defaulted to the ‘Classic’ preset which is a very standard almost uninteresting HDR image. On top of the alignment you can also have HDR Darkroom 3 take care of ghosting effects by checking the appropriate box. When switching between the two options there is no difference to the user interface (both options are completely software driven) so I’m assuming this is just going to depend on the amount of time it takes for the merge to be completed. When importing photographs you can have HDR Darkroom 3 align the images by either a fast method or advanced method. These work as you might expect where New HDR allows you to choose the set of bracketed images that you’d like to work on, single photo allows you to tone map a single photograph and batch processing allows for processing a batch of HDRs using the same settings.įor this review I’ll be using a three bracket set I took while photographing waterfalls recently. When you launch the program you can choose from three different import methods: New HDR, Single Photo and Batch. ![]() The program is also stripped down in a way that gives even the most novice HDR photographer an easy learning curve to get started. ![]() The simplicity of the way that HDR Darkroom 3 uses presets to get you started with tone mapping is unique, and takes a lot of the work out of finding the right starting point. The number one thing that stands out to me is the user interface. It’s available for both Mac and Windows users, and a free trial version can be downloaded from their site. The people at Everimaging have recently upgraded their HDR tone mapping software offering to its third edition, and as a result today we’re going to talk about HDRDarkroom 3. ![]() Bracketing multiple exposures of the same scene and merging them together with tone mapping software is one way of creating an HDR photograph allowing you to capture the full range of the scene in front of your camera. Digital cameras may be making incremental improvements with dynamic range capabilities, but are still lacking in terms of what they can capture. ![]() |
